SACCI SONA EXPECTATIONS 2016

In a statement issued today the CEO of SACCI, Mr. Alan Mukoki, said:

QUOTE:

The South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI) looks forward to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) as an important opportunity for President Jacob Zuma to respond to urgent economic concerns in the country. SONA should provide an indication of the policy imperatives of Government for the forthcoming year. The Business community is yearning to assist government in finding solutions to these challenges. Several key challenges to economic growth require high-level attention, including the protracted sustainable electricity supply deficit; service delivery and other protests; the slow progress in the roll out of the National Development Plan (NDP) which still requires considerable buy in from stakeholders and the threat of potential further downgrades by ratings agencies. On energy policy, South Africa urgently requires additional electricity providers in order to take pressure off Eskom. Uncertainty concerning Eskom’s capacity to meet demand when projects get off the ground is one of the elements that is inhibiting growth.
